Resin driveways, paths & patios

For the ultimate kerb appeal

Cheshire Bound Stone are one of South Manchester, Stockport and Cheshire’s leading specialists in top quality resin driveways, paths and patios.

The benefits of resin driveways

Low Maintenance

Unlike traditional paving slabs  and loose gravel that can be difficult to keep weed free, resin driveways, paths and patios require no weeding, de-mossing or repointing and are practically maintenance free, allowing you to enjoy your outdoor space rather than spending time keeping it tidy.

Cost Effective

Due to the long lifespan of resin bound surfaces, and very low maintenance requirements, your investment is an incredibly cost effective way to enhance the practicality of your outside space, as well as adding kerb appeal and value to your home.

Stylish

With almost 30 different colours and styles of natural stone to choose from, and in combination with our creative landscaping and design services, you can enjoy a stylish and beautiful outside space that totally complements your property and your own unique style.

Hardwearing

Polyurethane resin offers high levels of durability and UV stability, yet is also flexible enough to allow for movement which prevents cracking.

Permeable

The porous nature of a resin drive allows for natural self-drainage, meaning no more puddles and pooling of water. They are also SUDs compliant and generally do not require planning permission.

Long Lifespan

We offer a 10 year guarantee on our workmanship, although a resin driveway can last up to 25 years without need for repairs, making them a cost effective and hassle free long term solution.

Cheshire Bound Stone design and install resin driveways across the South Manchester and Cheshire areas including Hale, Wilmslow, Alderley Edge, Prestbury, Macclesfield, Bramhall, Cheadle Hulme, Heaton Moor, Stockport, Knutsford and Didsbury.

Resin driveways explained

Resin bound driveways are a mixture of natural stones and a high quality premium polyurethane resin that binds the stone together, yet allows water to permeate through as with a standard gravel driveway.

The underlying base build up is different for each project, and as with all construction, strength comes from building up in layers.

The exact composition and method we use, including the ratio of aggregates to resin, our ground preparation processes, mixing process, and the thickness of the surface, has been carefully devised and tested to ensure stability and long term performance.

We have spent more than £20,000 on strength testing and UV degradation assessments with a top UK polyurethane supplier to ensure our resin bound surfaces are durable and the finish stays true to life.

Resin Bound Driveways FAQs

How much does a resin bound driveway cost?

The cost of a resin bound driveway can vary widely depending on various factors, including the size of the area, the choice of materials used, and the preparation work required.

As a ballpark though, the cost of a resin driveway needing full groundworks starts from £130 per m2, and with certain variables will be more. You may want to find out more about pricing in our Resin Driveways Cost Guide here.

What we will say is that unlike some cheaper contractor quotes, we cut absolutely no corners, and we pride ourselves on both the structural integrity of our resin driveways as well as our high end designs.

What’s the difference between a resin bonded and resin bound surface?

In a resin bonded surface, the layer of resin is applied to an existing surface such as tarmac or concrete, and then loose gravel/ aggregate is scattered over it. This gives a rougher finish and is not a permeable surface.

On the other hand, resin bound surfaces involve mixing the resin with aggregate before application, creating a smooth finish and a permeable surface.

There are some instances where resin bonded may be more suitable, but we generally install resin bound surfacing.

If you want to more about the differences click here to read our Resin Bound v Resin Bonded Guide.

What are the disadvantages of resin driveways?

There aren’t really any disadvantages of a resin driveway assuming it is installed properly by professionals like ourselves, but there are scenarios where another solution may be a better choice.

The first thing to consider is cost. The initial outlay for a resin driveway rather than tarmac or loose gravel, is more expensive, so if budget is a key factor, you may want to consider a cheaper option.

And there are some situations and locations where a resin bound driveway may not be a suitable, and we would talk to you openly and honestly about this when you make an enquiry.

You can find out more about this in our blog post “Pros and cons of resin driveways

What sub base do you need for a resin bound surface?

Much of the cost of a installing a resin driveway properly is in the groundworks. And at Cheshire Bound Stone we cut absolutly no corners. If anything we err on the side of overengineering the sub base. It’s an investment, but it’s the right investment and we want to ensure your resin driveway installation is foolproof.

The site first needs to be excavated to a minimum of 300mm. We then add edge constraints, a highly compacted MOT limestone sub base, followed by a no fines concrete binder course. We may also add a geotextile membrane dependent on the site. And only then can the finishing layer of resin aggregate be added.

What is the life expectancy of a resin driveway?

The lifespan of a resin bound driveway can vary depending on factors such as the quality of the resin, the type of aggregate used, and the level of wear and tear the driveway experiences.

But at Cheshire Bound Stone we use only the best quality materials, and only use UV stable resin. And as experienced and professional installers, our groundwork, preparation and installation is completed to the very highest standards.

We guarantee our work for 12 years, but with regular cleaning, and a periodic re-seal, you can expect your resin driveway to last up to 20 years.

How long before you can park on a newly installed resin driveway?

Generally you should avoid parking for at least 48 to 72 hours after installation to allow the resin to cure and harden properly.

And we would recommend not walking on your new resin drive for around 24 hours.

We appreciate there may be access difficulties to your property at the time of installation, so we will work closely with you to implement solutions that minimise disruption to your daily life.

How long will it take to have my resin driveway installed?

The time it takes to install a resin driveway varies widely depending on the size of the driveway and the complexity of the groundworks and installation.

However, in general, an average sized driveway of around 60 sqm can be installed in 5 working days with an additional 48 to 72 hours curing and hardening time before parking vehicles on it.

What maintenance do do resin bound surfaces need?

The good news – you don’t need to go out weeding! But your resin driveway or resin bound paving will last longer if you do some maintenance tasks.

Regular sweeping helps prevent organic debris from building up on the resin surface, and occasional jet washing helps prevent more stubborn dirt and grime (although avoid using excessive pressure as it could damage the resin coating).

For any spills or stains, such as oil or chemical substances, these should be cleaned up as soon as possible to prevent staining. Please ask us about which cleaning products are suitable beforehand.

Resealing your resin driveway every 2-3 years helps rejuvenate the natural colour of the driveway and helps keep it protected from the elements. This is a service we provide.
